LinkedIn is a bubble swarming with space junk-like BS that has the potential to knock your entire career and business out of orbit.
Be honest. How much of the time you spend on LI is dedicated to helping people that fall into your actual target group?
And how many of the people in your network belong to your own set—and, through the stuff they post, are keeping you trapped in a pointless bubble?
Or, even worse, an infinite circle jerk of inane, self-ingratiating niceties dished out in the faint hope of perhaps receiving some of the same in return... Highschool memories, anyone?
So what to do instead?
To use a bit of fashionable lingo: you need to curate your network. Ever had annihilation fantasies about colleagues in your industry? This is the right place to process them. Rid yourself of the kinds of contacts that will never buy your services and only ever acknowledge your presence when you kiss up to them—
And instead cultivate relationships based on actual real-world interests and merit. If that means collecting new contacts by going out and attending events like trade fairs, conferences, Rotary Club meetings and the like, do it. Your social life will thank you for it.
